Sowing Faith Farm
Sowing Faith Farm was born out of a desire to teach and encourage local farmers to farm in a healthy, sustainable method, allowing them to fully provide for their families. In partnership with YWAM Milala, Sowing Faith Farm is a 10 acre training farm teaching local communities sustainable farming practices.
The Need
Malawi has abundant natural resources, and if used well, would provide every farmer enough produce to feed their families. However, due to poor farming practices, such as heavy tillage, mono-cropping, chemical fertilizers, and pesticides, the soil is no longer able to produce healthy food. There are so many families who go hungry every year, even those who die of starvation, while the land holds tremendous resources and ability to provide food.
Here at Sowing Faith International, we seek to change those statistics using practical education.
Changing the World Through Education
Our goal with Sowing Faith Farm is to provide the resources and education to local farmers, allowing them to heal their land and soil. We do this through practical trainings such as composting, cover crops, and intercropping. Our 10 acre training farm is used an a demonstration ground for what is possible. We harvest crops every year that are planted completely sustainably, allowing local farmers to see the potential of their own land. We help provide trainings in using our resources, such as utilizing bananas to catch extra water flow, and food forest techniques in local villages.
Bringing The Gospel
Teaching doesn't end with farming, we also share about the love of Jesus. God was the first farmer when He created the plants and animals, and He called us to farm when He gave Adam the commandment to steward the Earth. Farming is connected to spirituality, and there are hands on ways to share the love of Jesus through farming. It is our deepest hope at Sowing Faith International that all our students on Sowing Faith Farm are equipped with the tools to provide healthy, affordable, locally grown, food to their families and the love of Jesus to their communities.
